Lansing airport receives $7.823 million in federal funding for passenger boarding bridges replacement

LANSING, Mich.— The Capital Region Airport Authority (CRAA) on Thursday announced that the Capital Region International Airport (LAN) will receive $7.823 million in federal funding to upgrade the airport’s passenger boarding bridges. This funding was included in the federal budget bill that was signed after passing both the House and the Senate earlier this week.

“This nearly $8 million in federal funding is a critical infrastructure investment for the Capital Region International Airport (LAN). Replacing our passenger boarding bridges is a necessary upgrade that directly supports the safety, efficiency, and reliability of our facilities for our tenants, airline partners and passengers,” said Nicole Noll-Williams, president and CEO of the Capital Region Airport Authority (CRAA). “We are grateful for the continued support of our federal legislative partners Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin and Rep. Barrett, whose advocacy helps ensure LAN remains a safe, modern and competitive gateway for the Mid-Michigan region.”

This funding will support the replacement and modernization of passenger boarding bridges at LAN, and will provide critical upgrades to the airport’s infrastructure. Additionally, the upgrade will support safety, accessibility and reliability while supporting operational efficiency for airport tenants, airline partners and passengers, as well as future growth of the airport.

“The Capital Region International Airport plays a critical role in supporting our thriving mid-Michigan economy, providing jobs for hundreds of local workers, transporting hundreds of thousands of passengers, and moving more than 60 million pounds of cargo every year. The $7.8 million investment I fought to secure will replace outdated and inoperable jet bridges to cut down on maintenance costs and create a better experience for everyone when they ‘Fly Lansing.’ This was a no-brainer, and I’m proud we were able to work together to get it done,” said Congressman Tom Barrett.

“Michiganders need safe, reliable transportation infrastructure to get where they need to go, and our airports are a vital part of this. That’s why I was proud to help secure nearly $8 million for Lansing’s Capital Region International Airport to upgrade their jet bridges, improving safety and efficiency for both passengers and flight crew,” said Senator Gary Peters.
