Capital Region International Airport Ready For Holiday Travel Season

Return

Lansing's Capital Region International Airport is ready again for another holiday travel season with airlines reporting that many flights will be full this year during peak flying periods including the week before Thanksgiving through the Sunday after the holiday, and again the week before Christmas through the New Year.

"Holidays are a busy travel time of the year," said Robert Selig, Executive Director of the Capital Region Airport Authority.  "We always tell travelers to arrive at the airport early, at least 1 hour before your Lansing flight, and prepare for careful security screening which may take some time.  Security screening lines in Lansing are very efficient and do move a lot faster when compared to other airports."

The airport and the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are reminding travelers to prepare for security measures that will speed passengers through checkpoints.

TSA is well staffed for peak holiday travel days and wants air travelers to remember the numbers 3-1-1 for carry on luggage this holiday season, meaning:

  • 3 ounce bottles or less by volume of all liquids, gels and aerosols are allowed through security screening contained in,
  • a 1 quart-sized clear zip-top bag to hold all small bottles, and
  • travelers are allowed 1 zip-top bag per passenger to be placed in the security-screening bin.

The liquid restriction applies only to carry-on bags.  Travelers can still pack larger quantities of liquids in checked baggage.

TSA is again advising travelers not to wrap holiday gifts they are taking on a plane.  TSA officers may have to unwrap gifts if they need to take a closer look.  Either ship wrapped gifts ahead of time or wait until your destination to wrap them.

Travelers are encouraged to go on-line for more security and travel tip information at TSA.gov or go to FlyLansing.com to check other travel information from Lansing, including booking flight reservations and checking arrival and departure times of scheduled flights.
