LANSING, MI … A public open house will be held to discuss the Environmental Assessment being prepared for the Capital City Airport on Tuesday, June 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the airport terminal building in the Amelia Earhart Room.
An Environmental Assessment is being prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act to evaluate alternatives to proceed with a runway extension project identified in the Capital City Airport’s 1995 Master Plan. The project would consist of extending Runway 10R/28L1250 feet to the east and relocating Dewitt Road to accommodate this extension. Additionally, the Airport wishes to construct approximately 3900 feet of service road in the southwest portion of its facility.
The open house will allow the public to drop in and view exhibits illustrating the study to date. Representatives from the firm conducting the study (Mead & Hunt, Inc), the Federal Aviation Administration, Multi-Modal Transportation Services Bureau of the Michigan Department of Transportation, and the Airport will be there to answer questions and seek input from the public. The next step will be to evaluate the various design alternatives to extend the runway while considering the environmental impacts and input from the community.
